The Campaign

The Institute of Wellbeing is working in partnership with the Department of Education (DfE) and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) on a nationwide initiative, which will support parents in creating a positive home learning environment (HLE) to improve language and literacy skills in children aged 0-5 years. 

The first few years of a child’s life are critical to shaping their future development and wellbeing.  A high-quality home learning environment is central to shaping early learning experiences and is a key predictor of a child’s early language ability and successful future wellbeing outcomes. 

We also understand that due to the coronavirus outbreak, children are spending more time at home and there is more pressure on parents and families to juggle work, family, finances, relationships, childcare, early learning, home schooling and family wellbeing.
