About our campaign

A national campaign & a targeted approach in Croydon.

In 2019, the Department for Education (DfE) launched Hungry Little Minds, a national campaign designed to improve the early communication, language and literacy skills of children under five by helping parents turn their everyday activities that they are already doing with their child into new Chat-Play-Read and Home Learning opportunities to fill their child’s world with words and numbers.

The Hungry Little Minds campaign is a key part of the Government’s broader ambition to halve the proportion of five-year-olds starting school without the literacy, language and communication skills they need to learn and flourish by 2028.

We work with numerous partners nationally and in the London Borough of Croydon to bring the Hungry Little Minds campaign to life into the homes of local communities and explore what works to reach parents on the ground and impact the people who need our services the most by using a Place-Base Working model to connect people, resources and assets from across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

The Hungry Little Minds goodie bag contains lots of fun chat, play and read activities that you can do with your child. We have also included a small selection of fun books to read together.
