‘Tidying Up’ A Poem about Self Love

Sometimes it’s dark in here and I can’t find my self love.

I know I left it here somewhere but recently I’ve stopped tidying up…

Neglected this body and parts of this mind,

All the work I did last week, I’m now struggling to find,

this self love takes time, this self love takes time,

I’ve been screaming this forgetting consistency in mine.

Our mind is like a garden, in the summer watch it glow,

We neglect it in the winter and are shocked at how the weeds have grown.

We want quick fixes, some too hard to maintain,

So we stand on sandcastles and they wash away again.

We fall, into self doubt and hate,

look in the mirror at our face and past it, to the prison we’ve created.

Sometimes it’s dark in here and yet we hold the light,

searching for something warm to melt all of this ice-
that we’ve created.

He called me beautiful and said maybe he should say it more,

But others words don’t help me heal, I’ve heard them all before,

Its mine I listen to most,
telling me of all of the things I loathe about myself.

Sometimes it’s dark in here and I can’t find my self love.

I know I left it here somewhere but recently I’ve stopped tidying up.
